Bring child for first dental visit by 1 year of age
Avoid allowing baby to go to sleep with a bottle filled with milk or juice
Decrease night-time breast feeding once baby’s teeth develop
Before teeth develop, clean the mouth with damp cloth
Once teeth appear, use soft bristled toothbrush with toothpaste to clean teeth

Limit frequent snacking on sugary food such as candy, cake, and even crackers and pretzels
Avoid giving child soda and juice, stick with regular milk and water
Make sure children spend 2 minutes brushing
At night, after brushing, go right to bed (no snacks
along the way)
Parents, continue helping child brush and floss their teeth until they reach 8 years of age
See your dentist for regular visits (every 6 months)
